The Team

Quick Introduction

Vania is the delinquent brainchild of brothers Daniel (Daniel) Nethersole [He/Him] and Robert (Rob) Clarke. [He/Him] Why do two brothers have different last names? It's complicated, don't worry about it!

Vania itself is the trading name of Critical Path Marketing Limited, but along with our artist Sarah (Saz) Nethersole [They/Them], we form the legally non-existent but very passionate entity of Wandering Skeletons, and alongside Vania, we're also working on an indie horror game called Summerford.

We're not data engineers, nor are we pretending to be. We're used to working with data on both a technical and practical sense. But we are active indie developers with many years of experience in the tech and games industries, and we're trying our best.

Daniel Nethersole

Daniel has been making websites since he was a kid, selling his first search engine for $500 at the age of fourteen. While that's not quite as high a valuation as Google, he didn't have go to Stanford to work it out.

He has since created StatusCake, one of the largest web monitoring platforms in the world, which he exited from in 2021. Daniel also owns the restaurant booking management platform, BookingNinja, which takes hundreds of thousands of hospitality bookings every day.

Daniel is responsible for just about every line of code on the site, along with pretty much anything else that gets thrown at him.

Robert Clarke

Rob is a games industry type with 15 years experience across marketing, design and production in games and "game adjacent" industries. He has worked for big boys like Electronic Arts on the ill fated Titanfall 2 (the sales numbers of which he claims are not his fault, but who can be sure?).

He has headed and formed marketing departments at several start-ups including Doctor Who game creators Reality+, but his true passion is both personally and professionally is indie gaming. To that end, he's also spent time at publishers like Curve Digital and tinyBuild as a marketing dude working on many awesome titles.

Rob is responsible for most of Vania's production, planning, feature scoping and QA. And this stunning, beautiful documentation you are reading right now.

Sarah Nethersole

Saz our resident artist, handles all of the art you see on the site and is responsible for much of our personality as well as the many amazing custom drawings of VIB we use around the site.

Sarah has worked on the graphic novel Legion of Gnomes, and is also our long suffering 3D artist on our video game, Summerford where they do basically everything that isn't coding. They are also married to Daniel... but somebody had to do it.
